What is the
Supplemental Services Fund?
The Peru Public
library Supplemental services Fund exists for the
sole purpose of providing a special legal depository
for gifts in the form of bequests, charitable
donations, or estate settlements from individuals,
families, or other entities.
Our fund functions
apart from the annual fiscal operations of the library and uses this resource for the
benefit
of all patrons of the library and the
community it serves in the Illinois Valley area.
Whether young or
old, you will someday plan for your future.
If
you've enjoyed our many services and recognize the
importance
of libraries to their communities, we hope that you
think of us when working with your attorney or
estate planner.
For further information, please call the library at
815-223-0229.
Here's what we do with the tax dollars we
receive.
From $120,000 in
property tax allocation and $148,000 from a city
subsidy, we pay
$175,000 in staff salaries and another $45,000 in
benefits for our employees.
From these same tax
dollars we spend $35,000 a year to update our
collection of 40,000 books and 140 periodical
subscriptions.
We also spend
$8,000 a year to maintain our online connection to
the prairie Area Library system, a network of
libraries
that makes it possible for us to get books and other items requested by
patrons. With just a keystroke, we process
more than
9,000 orders each year to other libraries with to satisfy our patrons. In turn, other
libraries
borrow over 6,000 items a year from us.
This system is an integral part of the service we
provide.
Did you know...
Each month, more
than 500 patrons use our free public access
computers to write letters, use email, surf the Web,
or research information on special databases for
homework, special projects, or personal use.
During the summer
of 2004, 400 children had an opportunity to read
16,000 books in our annual Summer Reading Program.
Throughout the year, an average of 500 children
attend our Story Hours.
From your home
computer, you can order books from the Peru Library
or from any library in the Prairie Area Library
System.
You can pick up your order at the Peru Library.
Library cards are
free. After you obtain your library card, you may
use it at any library within the Prairie Area
Library system.
